biography of ashoka
I. Early years
A. 304 BC an intelligent boy with the name of Ashoka was born. At this time his grandfather, Chandragupta, was ruling the Empire.
B. In 286 BC Ashoka got appointed as Viceroy of the province of Avanti. Here he used his intelligence to help this area.
C. Buddha belonged to Sakya at this time and a famous lady from this clan married Ashoka . Ashoka had one daughter and one son.
D. Ashoka was appointed as monarch of Mauryan.

II. SIGNIFICANT events
A. One of Ashoka's first duties as king was to expand his emopire east and west. After many brutal battles he made a decidion that violance isn't the answer.
B. Ashoka made a decision never to fight another kingdom for land because he wanted to value the beliefs of Buddhism.
C. Ashoka kept his army in case of attack but religion was still the center of the empire.
D. Ashoka had four edicts that helped people to respect Buddhist values. The four edicts were carved into walls, rocks, and pillars. The edicts were Buddhists values, security, justice, and general welfare.

B. Ashoka was very religious and followed all of the rules of Buddhism such as not hunting, being a vegetarian, value love, peace, and non violence, respect all living things, and don't go to war.
C. Ashoka was was very practical as a ruler, if you did serious crime you were executed and allowing slavery was very practical at this time.
D. Ashoka was very peaceful because he didn't fight for land, respected his people, and was kind to animals.

A. I think that Ashoka is very into no war and world peace, what he knew of the world.
B. I feel like the four edicts are kind of like our constitution today.
C. I believe that if Ashoka didn't didn't believe in Buddhism that Buddhism wouldn't be so popular through out the world today.
D. I believe that Ashoka's goal to unite the empire was smart but that will never happen.
